Ben pulled his Mercedes into the driveway, parking behind Eliza’s CRV. The house before them was a slightly larger than average Cape-style home with a detached two-story garage. Fresh snow blanketed the yard with a thin coating of white, flakes still swirling in the air. Not a long drive from the office to her home, but enough time to let the searing heat from their kisses cool. His hands gripped the steering wheel tighter, pondering his next move.

This is a bad idea.

It wasn’t like he’d never fucked a coworker or classmate before. Back home in Cambridge, he was the king of one night stands. Before his father died, Ben had a mutually beneficial arrangement with Miriam, who worked in his mother’s office. But things the connection between he and Eliza already felt more than skin deep, when all he should be worried about was getting her naked to see all that glorious silky flesh.

One and done. He needed to stick to the original plan. Get in, get out, no one gets hurt. No morning afters or messy feelings. Eliza told him as much when they discussed it at the bar. This was a hate-fuck to get the physical cravings out of their systems.

Nothing more, nothing less.

By tomorrow morning when they saw each other at the office, they’d both be over this magnetic attraction pulling them toward each other. The cravings would be satisfied and they could go back to working together like civilized human beings.

When she finally got out of her car, he quickly followed suit. Getting close, he slid his hand beneath her coat and around her waist, pulling her body flush against his and pressing his lips to hers. Heat flared in an instant, all thoughts and doubts swept away by the intensity of his need.

Her words whispered against his mouth. “Are you coming upstairs with me?”

“Upstairs?” His brain seemed to be working in slow motion, too focused on the feel of her in his arms, all soft and warm and willing. He reveled in the closeness, pulling her hips against his to show her just how much he liked it.

She closed her eyes for a moment as she pressed against his ready erection. She opened her eyes again, her chest rising and falling fast enough to show him that she was as turned on as he felt. “This might be a bad idea.”

“Do you want me to leave?”

“No.” She swallowed. “I should. But I don’t.”

“Then as Shakespeare once said, Lead on, MacDuff.”

She cocked her head and smiled. “Shakespeare never said that. The Macbeth quote actually starts with Lay on, MacDuff.”

“Lay on. I like it. Sounds a little dirty.” Ben pumped both eyebrows, hoping for a laugh and getting one.

“Come on, goofball.” She took his hand and led him to a door at the corner of the garage. “I know it’s lame that I still live with my parents, but I’m saving to buy my own house. Paying rent seems like a waste of money when they have this perfectly good apartment space.
